Departing our hotel after breakfast we travel through the Connemara National Park to Kylemore Abbey. The Abbey was built in the late 1800s by Mitchell Henry MP, a wealthy business man and liberal politician. Inspired by his love for his wife Margaret, and his hopes for his beloved Ireland, Henry created an estate boasting ‘all the innovations of the modern age’. An enlightened landlord and vocal advocate of the Irish people, Henry poured his life’s energy into creating an estate that would showcase what could be achieved in the remote wilds of Connemara. Today Kylemore Abbey is owned and run by the Benedictine community who have been in residence here since 1920. We return to our hotel with time to relax before evening meal.
This morning is free to discover all that medieval Galway has to offer. This afternoon we enjoy a scenic cruise along the River Corrib and Lough Corrib with the skipper giving a commentary on all points of interest along the River and Lake while you sit back and enjoy the tea/coffee and scones that will be served during the cruise.
We head along the Wild Atlantic Way, first to The Cliffs of Moher. Step on to the edge of the world and into an awe inspiring view that dreams are made of at the Cliffs of Moher you will encounter nature in its wildest, purest form and see the rugged cliffs facing the mighty ocean, taste the salt air, hear the birds cry, feel the ancient rocks beneath your feet and smell the wind. We continue to Spanish Point and return to Galway via Burren National Park.
Departing after a leisurely breakfast we travel to Kilbeggan Distillery, the oldest licenced distillery in Ireland. Dating back to 1757 a visit today lets you discover real artisanal Irish whiskey distilling at its finest and of course no visit would be complete without a taste of Kilbeggan’s finest. We continue to Dublin with some free time before checking in to our overnight hotel.
